Gabriel Salazar Vergara was born on 31 January 1936. Vergara is Chilean historical research. The historian is well-known in the nation for his work on the social past and his interpretation of protests, especially the student protests that took place in 2006 and 2011-12. Salazar was born into a lower class family. He was educated in history along with sociology and philosophers at Universidad de Chile, and during his time, he served as advisor to historical historian Mario Gongora and classical historian Hector Herrera Cajas. Salazar was one of the Revolutionary Left Movement member from 1973 to 1973. Two years later, Salazar was tortured at Villa Grimaldi by the military. When he was released from the military prison camp in England, he fled the country. He was given a grant to continue his studies at Hull University. University of Hull. He was awarded the PhD in Economic and Social History from that institution in the year 1984. The following year, he returned to Chile. Salazar was largely unknown until 1985 when he made his debut. His subjects of research have included labourers, peons, proletariats, child huachos[A] and women. Salazar is one of the founding members of Nueva Historia Social which is a historical current. Salazar believes that history is an instrument to encourage social action.
